We provide teachers with opportunities to deepen their content knowledge and expand their repertoire of teaching strategies.

Standards-aligned Professional Development for Teachers/Educators

The UC San Diego Region of the California Reading & Literature Project (CRLP) is one of nine regional sites situated across California. Since our establishment, the CRLP has been proud partners of literacy professional learning with over fifteen school districts and charter schools, the San Diego County Office of Education, as well as equity-forward initiatives such as #USvsHate, CA GEAR UP, and several CA Department of Education taskforce committees.

Our mission is to provide high-quality, standards-aligned professional development in reading and language instruction to ensure that every California K-12 student achieves the highest standards of academic performance.

Our Approach

We enhance teacher knowledge through intensive reading and literature institutes and other professional learning opportunities. All CRLP professional development offerings are grounded in a research-based model, as endorsed by our California frameworks and standards, emphasizing:

  • Standards-Based Assessment
  • Research-Based Instruction
  • Team Meetings and Data Analysis
  • Team Meetings and Data Analysis
  • Grade Level Planning and Lesson Study
  • Teacher Leadership Development

Foundations in University Research

The CRLP is one of nine state-authorized projects, funded by the University of California: Subject Matter Projects.  Activities and programs are designed by university faculty, teacher leaders, and teacher practitioners to improve instructional practices and lead to increased achievement for all students.

All programs are grounded in the latest research on professional development, content, pedagogy and collaboration in order to increase success for all students, especially English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with low-literacy.

We are housed in the Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment, & Teaching Excellence (CREATE), on the UC San Diego campus in La Jolla, CA.
